The BBC is a broadcaster in the UK. It is headquartered in London, and is the world’s oldest national Broadcasting organisation and the largest broadcaster in the world by number of employees, with over 21,000+ staff. , of whom 16,672 are in public sector broadcasting; including part-time, flexible as well as fixed contract staff, the total number is 35,402.

This ship model was originally required for the 2006 BBC docudrama series, Krakatoa. The BBC needed a 2m long model, with a tight budget and limited timescale to build and deliver the model in time for production.

Plans for the GG Loudon were delivered to Premier Ship Models by the client before building began. The plans were used to help create a perfect scale replica.

Production began and within a very tight timeline the model was delivered to the BBC production studios. Photos of the model were sent at each production stage to the customer for them to approve. If any changes were requested, they were made at their respective stage of production.

This process helped to ensure total accuracy been the real ship and the model and delivered a high level of customer satisfaction upon end result.

The model was well received by BBC and featured we are proud to say throughout the documentary. Since this time we have been asked by private collectors to build this model for their collection after seeing the featured in the documentary.

“Despite an almost impossible schedule, his extraordinary team of crafts folk managed to deliver ‘2 x 8 feet’ ship models of the HMS Beagle and HMS Bellona -on time and more importantly on budget!!” Mike Tucker – Miniature Effects Supervisor – BBC.
