The Danish Maritime Museum is a prestigious institution first opened in 1915. It was initially located for the first 97 years of its existence in Kronborg Castle, Helsingør, but later moved in 2013 to an underground area in Helsingør around a dry dock. It receives 1000’s of visitors a year and has won numerous awards, including the Architizer A+ Award, the 2014 RIBA EU Award and the 2014 WAF Award (Culture Category).

Premier Ship Models were asked to deliver two 4 metre models for the grand opening of the new museum in 2013. One model was to be of the Torm Laura tanker and the other of the Lauritzen tanker. Both models were to be the centrepiece of the design behind the new museum and would later be presented to the Queen of Denmark. It was imperative that models were delivered in time for the grand opening of the museum and were built exactly to the customer’s requirements.

Plans of both ships were delivered to Premier Ship Models by the client before building began. The plans were used to help create a perfect scale replica.

Production began and within 6 months, both models had left the workshop and arrived with the customer in Denmark. Photos of the models were sent at each production stage to the customer for them to approve. If any changes were requested, they were made at their respective stage of production.

This process helped to ensure total accuracy been the real ship and the model and delivered a high level of customer satisfaction upon end result.
