We have recently completed a custom model build of the 15 M JI Mariska luxury sailing yacht. This vessel was built in Scotland, back in 1908, and was designed by the magnificent architect William Fife.
She is the only 15m Class model, and has a top speed of 8 knots, with a cruising speed of 6 knots. Mariska is one of 999 current sailing yachts within the 24 to 30 metre size range.
Our model equivalent measured in at 120 centimetres in length, and was handcrafted from scratch.
This project was commissioned by a private international client, and so we can only share a few details.
The client was delighted with the 15 M JI Mariska model, applauding the clear, consistent communication and the efficient, timely delivery—particularly in light of the challenges posed by an international transaction.
The model was expertly handcrafted using timber, acrylic, and fibreglass, and it boasts refined chrome detailing while measuring 120 centimetres in length. Designed with exceptional precision and artistry, it does not include any moving parts, internal mechanisms, or lighting.
Although CNC machinery was employed for the finer details—such as the intricately crafted hatches—the bulk of the construction was completed by hand.
The entire project spanned roughly three months. Payment was arranged in three instalments: a 50% deposit to commence work, another 30% as the project neared completion, and the final 20% upon delivery. Additionally, the overall cost encompassed a bespoke wooden packing case, carefully designed to protect the model during transit and ensure its safe arrival.
Our 15 M JI Mariska model was predominantly handcrafted using timber, acrylic, fibreglass, and chrome accents, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship and an unwavering attention to detail.
Before construction commenced, every aspect was carefully outlined in collaboration with the client. This included dimensions, design elements, aesthetics, financial terms, and the project timeline—ensuring complete transparency and minimising the risk of misunderstandings.
The process began with the hull, the model’s foundation. It was meticulously measured and assembled to precise specifications. Once completed, attention shifted to the upper deck, where individual wooden planks were carefully affixed along the ship’s sides, gradually concealing the internal framework. Structural supports for the masts and sails were then installed.
Next came the painting phase. The hull, deck, and intricate features were finished with precision, featuring a sleek black lower hull complemented by soft brown and white detailing. The sails were also completed in an elegant white.
In the final stages, the model underwent a comprehensive cleaning and polishing process. Hatches and railings were refined, rigging was carefully adjusted, and sails were tightened. To complete the project, the model was mounted on a bespoke wooden base, ensuring a sophisticated and professional display.
The client was delighted with the finished model, particularly appreciating its outstanding craftsmanship and intricate detailing. The shipping and delivery process was smooth and efficient, ensuring the model arrived in pristine condition, ready for display.
It was a privilege to create another bespoke replica of a historic luxury yacht, and we eagerly anticipate bringing future projects to life!
