Premier Ship Models have recently completed a custom order for three Hafnia Aragonite models, each measuring 110 centimetres in length.
Hafnia is the largest operator of product and chemical tankers, with a fleet of more than 200 vessels.
The real-life Aragonite has an overall length of 184 metres, with a width of 27 metres, and is primarily used for transporting oil.
This particular model was to be completely static, without any lightning or internal mechanisms.
As this work was undertaken for a private client, we are unable to share many details. However, they were delighted with the end result and with the level of professionalism demonstrated from start to finish.
The model was initially created using state-of-the-art 3D printing techniques, before being carefully finished by hand to deliver a refined and high-quality result.
It was fabricated entirely from ABS resin, timber and fibreglass, with selected areas enhanced by chrome detailing to elevate its overall appearance.
3D printing is a highly specialised discipline that requires a thorough understanding of three core elements:
- The characteristics of the materials involved
- The capabilities and limitations of the printing equipment
- The design intent and desired final aesthetic
This intricate process calls for significant technical expertise. Our 3D printing specialist oversees two critical stages: the development and preparation of the digital model for printing, followed by the detailed refinement of the printed parts to achieve a seamless, professional finish.
The bespoke Hafnia Aragonite model was produced primarily through advanced 3D printing methods, incorporating fibreglass and acrylic, and completed with chrome detailing — reflecting a high level of technical expertise, innovation and accuracy.
Prior to the start of construction, every aspect of the project was carefully reviewed and formally agreed with the client. This included detailed measurements, design requirements, aesthetic choices, payment terms and the overall delivery schedule. Defining these parameters from the outset ensured a streamlined process and helped to minimise the risk of miscommunication.
Construction began with the fabrication of the base, which formed the structural core of the model. This phase demanded precise measurement and skilled craftsmanship to faithfully reproduce the original vessel. Once complete, work progressed to the upper sections, including the deck and bridge.
Painting was carried out with exceptional attention to detail to achieve a flawless, premium finish. The hull was finished in a rich maroon, while the main body featured bold green and black tones. Extensive areas of the deck were painted white, complemented by smaller blue and red details. In the final stage, the model was carefully cleaned and polished to a high-gloss finish, and the base was completed with a bespoke wooden nameplate.
A Hafnia Aragonite decal was added to the rear of every model for further realism, along with Majuro, the capital of the Marshall Islands, which is the flag the vessel sails under.
This full process was repeated a further two times, resulting in a total of three identical models.
The client expressed a high level of satisfaction with the completed model. The successful delivery of a project of this quality relied on rigorous attention to detail and effective collaboration, and we take great pride in the professional approach upheld throughout. With this commission now complete, our focus moves to projects presently in progress and those planned for the near future.
