Premier Ship Models is proud to display this fantastic MV Riruccia custom model, made primarily through 3D printing and CNC machinery, but with many additional features finished solely by hand.
The real-life MV Riruccia is a bulk carrier that sails under the flag of Malta, and primarily operates in and around the Indian Ocean. She measures 225 metres in length, and is 32 metres wide.
Our model equivalent was to measure 113 centimetres in length, and be complete in an extremely high-level of detail. It was without any internal mechanisms or lightning, meaning it was an exclusively static model.
It was also complete with a customised name plate attached to the base, for an added touch of personalisation.
This project was completed for a UK-based client, and in line with our standard practice, we can only share limited details. However, we’re thrilled to report that the client was delighted with the final MV Riruccia model, as well as our clear communication and punctual delivery.
The model was meticulously handcrafted using timber, fiberglass, and chrome detailing, measuring 113 centimetres in length. Designed with exceptional precision, it featured intricate detailing but no moving parts, internal mechanisms, or lighting elements.
Brass stands supported the model, which rested on a sleek black base. While CNC machinery was used for major components like the hull and bridge, finer elements such as railings, windows, and stairs were carefully finished by hand.
The entire construction process spanned approximately six months. The payment structure included a 50% deposit upfront, 30% upon near completion, and the final 20% upon delivery. Additionally, the cost covered a custom-built wooden packing case, ensuring the model’s protection during transit for a secure and damage-free arrival.
Our MV Riruccia model was predominantly handcrafted using timber, chrome detailing, acrylic, and fiberglass, with brass incorporated for the supports.
Before construction began, we worked closely with the client to finalize all agreements, ensuring clarity on dimensions, design specifics, aesthetics, financial terms, and the project timeline – eliminating any room for misunderstanding.
The build started with the hull, the essential foundation of any ship model. We meticulously measured and shaped it to meet precise specifications before progressing to the upper deck. Small wooden planks were carefully placed along the ship’s sides, eventually enclosing the top to conceal internal reinforcements. Next, we constructed the base for the bridge.
Once the structure was complete, we moved on to painting and detailing. The lower hull was coated in a sleek red finish, while the upper section was painted crisp black. The bridge and bulwarks were finished in white, and chrome accents were added to enhance realism.
As the project neared completion, we conducted a thorough cleaning and refinement process, ensuring every detail was polished to perfection. The final touch was the addition of black-painted windows on the bridge, bringing the model to life with striking accuracy.
The client was absolutely delighted with the finished model, particularly impressed by the intricate detailing and craftsmanship. Shipping and delivery went smoothly, allowing them to showcase their model with pride.
Creating another custom bulk carrier ship model was a rewarding experience, and we’re excited to take on new projects in the near future!
