Premier Ship Models were recently entrusted with rather interesting commission — to craft a scale replica of the Fairline Targa GT 52 yacht. These yachts are the definition of luxury, and are immensely popular in the maritime community.

The project was carried out for a private client, and so not much can be said here. However, they were extremely impressed with the finished result, and the professionalism we displayed throughout.

The model was first produced using advanced 3D printing technology, then meticulously hand-finished to achieve a sophisticated final result.

It was constructed entirely from ABS resin, wood, and fibreglass, with chrome detailing applied to selected areas to enhance its visual elegance.

3D printing is a highly specialised craft that demands a deep understanding of three key factors:

  • The properties of the materials used
  • The capabilities and constraints of the printer
  • The design objectives and intended final aesthetic

This complex process requires considerable expertise. Our 3D printing specialist manages two crucial phases: the creation and preparation of the digital model for printing, followed by the precise refinement of the printed components to achieve a flawless, professional finish.

The bespoke Targa GT 52 model was primarily produced using 3D printing techniques, incorporating fibreglass and acrylic, and finished with chrome detailing — a testament to exceptional technical skill, innovation, and precision.

Before construction commenced, every element of the project was thoroughly reviewed and agreed with the client. This included precise measurements, design specifications, aesthetic preferences, payment arrangements, and the overall project timeline. Establishing these clear terms from the outset ensured a smooth workflow and significantly reduced the likelihood of any misunderstandings.

The build began with the creation of the base, forming the structural foundation of the model. This stage required meticulous measurement and expert craftsmanship to accurately replicate the original vessel. Once the base was completed, attention turned to the upper sections, including the decking, windows, and bridge. A custom lifeboat was also fitted to the stern for added realism, and the yacht was embellished with a decal reading ‘Lady Kate’.

The painting stage was undertaken with particular attention to detail to achieve a flawless, high-quality finish. The base was coated in a sleek black hue, while the main body of the model featured striking tones of white, black, and blue. In the final phase, the entire piece was delicately cleaned and polished to a mirror-like shine, and the base was completed with a bespoke bronze plaque.

To finish, two flags were added to the stern at the client’s request — the Indian flag and the Red Ensign, and internal illumination was completed, allowing for a truly pristine finished article.

The client expressed great satisfaction with the finished model. Delivering a project of this calibre required outstanding attention to detail and seamless collaboration, and we take immense pride in the professionalism demonstrated throughout every stage. With this commission now successfully completed, our focus shifts to the projects currently underway and those scheduled for the near future.
